Baby J- Spruce Grove Photographer

As some of you know I had the opportunity to travel to California last month to take some training from world the renowned photographers at Baby As Art. I've been so excited to come home and try the new techniques out on my own without the safety net of the pros. Eek! This session gave me the perfect opportunity to give it a try. This little guy was only 1 week old when I got to see him and he was the perfect little model!

Congratulations to this family (big sister too) on the arrival of your sweet little boy!

Cake Smash- Spruce Grove Photographers

When asked "do you do cake smash sessions?" my answer is always heck yeah!! Who wouldn't love the chance to watch a kid have an entire cake to themselves?! Although I am always a little envious if I'm being honest. *side note* if you ever want to surprise me, present me with a cake all to myself.

I love the kids in this family! It doesn't matter what the occasion, they are always game to have fun and play (and Mom and Dad too)! I know I've done my job right when the front door opens and there's a kid on the other side asking if I get to play today. It melts my heart when kids learn that photographer equals a play date. That's how it should be!

And, I couldn't resist the clean up bathtub photos at the end, it's becoming part 2 of all our cake smash session. But please, if you have issues with naked babies, let me know and I'll take it down.

Baby E- Spruce Grove Newborn Photographer

The night before I did this session, I had a horrible nightmare that I forgot how to take photos and that nothing worked out. When I woke up that morning my mind started to spin. I was panicking that I would flub the session! When I pulled into this family's driveway the dream was still swirling in the back of my mind.

Somehow I managed to quiet that doubtful voice, and once I got my camera in hand I felt at ease. It's a comfortable place for me to be (behind the lens), I see the world differently back there. Time seems to slow down and I notice details that get lost in everyday life. My most favourite images from this session are the ones that just seemed to transpire in front of me. It's those quiet moments where I don't want to breathe out of fear that someone will remember that I'm still there in the room with them, and the moment will be lost. I find myself holding my breathe and trying to make my camera click quietly. That's why I do this. It's those times that last for only a second before they are gone, and I just happen to be there, holding my breath...waiting.

Cake Smash- Spruce Grove Child Photographers

Here's another of our Watch Me Grow sessions that came to a wrap up *sigh*. It's always a little sad for me when these sessions are done. I know I typically get to see these kids again, but there's something exciting about knowing that you get to document that first year of life and be able to watch these babies evolve from tiny newborn to little moving, busy kids!

To celebrate this wrap up, we got to do a cake smash. At first, this little girl wasn't sure what to do with the bright pink heap of deliciousness, but it didn't take long before she figured out what to do next, and plopped down in her pretty pink tutu to eat some cake (or at least the icing)! Thanks to Mom and Dad for risking your clothes with a great wealth of pink dye, but it was all for a worthy cause:) I absolutely love the photos when the whole family got involved!

And, or course, we can't forget the last photo of waiting for her post-cake smash bath!!
